RAKTAMOKSHAN TREATMENT
Raktamokshan is a treatment rooted in Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of medicine. Translated as “bloodletting” in Sanskrit language, the procedure aims at blood purification by removing toxins that are believed to cause various kinds of diseases. In many cases, blood stagnation or impurity may lead to the development of the illness.
There are different methods used in Raktamokshan:
Siravedha
This method includes making a hole in a vein with a sterile needle or lancet and letting out the amount of blood that is necessary for therapy. It must be performed under strict conditions.
Pracchanna
The instruments employed here include small cuts on the affected area with surgical knives or cups like those utilized in modern cupping therapy, thus allowing the outflow of impure blood.
Jalaukaavacharana
In this case, medicinal leeches (Hirudo medicinalis) are used. These leeches help to draw off impure blood from the affected site and release enzymes with therapeutic effects.
